President Musk’s Latest Move
Vice President Trump has suspended the refugee resettlement program — except for white Afrikaners
You can’t make this stuff up. The preceding sentence is a terrible cliché, and yet I find it running through my mind on a daily basis.
One of Trump’s first acts on his first day in office was to suspend the U.S. refugee admissions program. This is a program which, in the words of the nonprofit International Rescue Committee, has offered safety to some of the most vulnerable refugees in the world and has saved countless lives.
Thanks to
, I learned last night (and it’s been all over the news today) that Trump has now issued an Executive Order providing an exception for white Afrikaners. That’s right. We’ve shut down the refugee system for other migrants (read: Black and Brown people) seeking safety from persecution. But if you’re a white South African, the message is that America’s doors are open. (Never mind that few white South Africans would be likely to fulfill the legal criteria for admission to the United States as refugees.)Below are the key provisions of the new Executive Order:
Like I said, you can’t make this stuff up. Or rather, you need not do so, because it’s happening in real time. Trump & Co. are not even pretending that they are not white supremacists. As Kocher says, “this EO feels like they aren’t just saying the thing out loud—they are screaming it.”
Read Kocher’s latest Substack post to learn more about the historic role of race in the U.S. immigration system, as well as some background about South African apartheid and why this Executive Order was issued now.
Oh, and for those who missed it, USAID played a role in the rolling back of apartheid in South Africa in the early 1990s. Query: could this have something to do with why USAID has been targeted for destruction? Inquiring minds want to know.
The premise is that efforts to undo apartheid and redress wrongs is discriminatory against white people. Another version of rooting out DEI efforts in our country but on a larger scale. The toxicity of this government is beyond the pale.
